The acts of individuals responsible for the damage to the Liverpool team coach on its return trip from the Etihad Stadium on Saturday have been “strongly condemned” by Manchester City.
After City’s 4-1 Premier League victory, the club claimed that an object was thrown in the direction of the coach in a residential area.
After reports of criminal damage, Greater Manchester Police opened an investigation.
“Incidents of this kind are totally unacceptable,” City said.
The Premier League champions added in a statement: “We strongly condemn the actions of the individual(s) responsible.
“We will fully support Greater Manchester Police’s investigation into this incident in any way we can.”
According to police, the incident happened at at 3.40 p.m. on Ashton New Road, which is the street that runs behind the Etihad, just before the intersection with Rowsley Street.
No casualties were reported, and the coach proceeded on its route.
“An investigation has now been launched by Greater Manchester Police to identify and locate the offenders,” GMP said in a statement.
