Liverpool won’t be releasing Mohamed Salah for Egypt’s World Cup Qualifiers

Liverpool have confirmed that they won’t be letting Mohamed Salah represent Egypt in next month’s World Cup qualifiers due to Covid-19 restrictions.

The Reds told the Egyptian FA about the situation with the national team facing Angola on September 2nd in Cairo and then travelling to Gabon three days later. Egypt is a red-listed country on the UK government’s travel list.

The Egyptian FA’s statement reads as quoted by Sky Sports:

“The Egyptian Football Association had received a letter from Liverpool FC apologising for the inability of its player, Mohamed Salah, to join the national team in its next camp, which includes Angola in Cairo and Gabon in Franceville during the first and second rounds of the African continent’s qualifiers for the World Cup.

“In the letter, the English club also expressed its hope that the Egyptian federation would understand that it was forced to do so, in the face of the player being subjected to a quarantine for this period and being affected by this physically.”

Liverpool will not be releasing Brazilian trio Alisson, Fabinho and Roberto Firmino with Brazil also on the UK’s red list.
