Liverpool equal Premier League record with nine-goal against Bournemouth

With a 9-0 demolition of Bournemouth at Anfield, Liverpool began their season in devastating fashion, tying the Premier League’s biggest victory.

Liverpool’s Premier League season got off to its worst start in ten years on Monday when it lost at Manchester United, but the raging Reds quickly set the record straight by matching United’s 9-0 triumph against Ipswich in 1995 to begin their campaign.

Before scoring himself with Liverpool’s fourth, Roberto Firmino assisted on Luis Diaz’s opener, Harvey Elliott’s shot, and Trent Alexander Arnold’s powerful strike.

There was no respite for the Cherries after Chris Mepham placed the ball into his own net, as Virgil van Dijk’s thunderous header made sure. In the 62nd minute, Firmino scored his second goal of the game to give Liverpool its seventh of the day.

After coming off the bench, Fabio Carvalho scored his first Liverpool goal, and then Diaz added his second and the ninth goal for the home team to complete the historic triumph and move Jurgen Klopp’s team up to eighth place in the standings.
