Lionel Messi set to extend PSG contract

A new agreement between Paris Saint-Germain and Lionel Messi should allow the Argentine to stay with the team through the 2023–24 season.

He signed a two-year contract when he joined the Ligue 1 team in 2021, therefore his current term only lasts until the summer of 2023.

However, as MARCA already reported in mid-July, the two parties have been in discussions for the past four months.

A verbal agreement in principle was reportedly made at the start of the World Cup in early December, according to Le Parisien.

Over the previous few months, Messi’s entourage and his father Jorge have spoken with both Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi.

What will be decided when Messi returns from his post-World Cup rest is how long the deal will last and how much money he will make in this extra year.

Although there have been recent rumors linking the forward with a transfer outside of France, it is thought that the two sides made it plain at the beginning of the month that they intended to continue working together.
