Lionel Messi agrees two-year contract offer from Paris Saint-Germain

Lionel Messi has agreed to join Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year deal as the six-time Ballon d’Or winner is travelling to Paris on Tuesday afternoon.

As reported by Sky Sports, the Argentine joins the Ligue 1 giants, agreeing to a contract worth £25m per year, plus bonuses after tax, there is also the option of a further year extension for Messi.

Messi had two other options having left Barcelona last week but decided on joining PSG where he will link up with his compatriot and new manager, Mauricio Pochettino.

Barcelona and Messi had agreed on a new contract with a five-year deal signed between the two parties. However, Messi’s 21-year stay came to an end in what the club announced on Thursday as “financial and structural obstacles” saw him become a free agent.

In an emotional farewell press conference, Messi revealed that he “did everything” he could to remain at the Catalans having agreed to a 50 per cent wage cut. This still wasn’t enough to adhere to La Liga’s rules on club spending.
