Netflix has released a new trailer for David Blue Garcia’s upcoming slasher Texas Chainsaw Massacre, which, as the title suggests, is the newest entry in the broader Leatherface-focused franchise.
The new Massacre acts as a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s original 1974 classic, marking a storytelling decision that will be recognizable to fans of the Halloween franchise. After almost five decades in hiding, Leatherface resurfaces to terrorize a group of pals (played by Sarah Yarkin, Elsie Fisher, Jacob Latimore, and Neil Hudson) in the new thriller.
Sally Hardesty, who fans will remember as the lone survivor from the events of the first film, has been cast by Olwen Fouéré. Sally’s thirst for vengeance is heightened in the new Massacre after the aforementioned group of pals accidently disturb the renowned Leatherface’s house in the middle of nowhere Texas.
“This story will pick it up many, many years after the original story,” Fede Álvarez, who co-wrote the new story with Rodo Sayagues, told Entertainment Weekly on Monday. “He’s been in hiding for a long, long time, trying to be a good person. These people arriving in this town are going to awaken the giant.”
