Konami and Bloober Team announce Silent Hill 2 remake

A “Silent Hill Transmission” event that promised to provide updates for a few upcoming projects that would bring the long-dormant universe back to life broadcast on Wednesday. Three games, a movie, and one “whole new experience” are what fans can anticipate.

A Silent Hill 2 remake for the PlayStation 5 was mistakenly revealed by the video game business through a YouTube description hours before the stream began. The unintended announcement was ultimately removed, but the brief video announcing its release was nevertheless a welcome sight—the franchise last bombarded gamers with Silent Hill: Downpour, Book of Memories, and the Silent Hill HD Collection, as well as the film sequel Revelation—in 2012.

The PS5 wishlist now includes the Bloober Team’s remake of Silent Hill 2, which will be a timed exclusive for the first year of its release and only be available on PlayStation and PC. The second game in the series, frequently regarded as its greatest, debuted on the PS2 in 2001 after the first game in the series debuted on the original PlayStation in 1999. It follows The Last of Us Part I, another PS5 recreation of a legendary survival-horror game from years and consoles past.

Konami producer Motoi Okamoto said one of the main goals has been “to preserve the atmosphere that made Silent Hill 2 so exceptional, while also modernizing many aspects of the game’s overall gameplay.”

He added that the team is “working closely with the original creators, including Akira Yamaoka and Masahiro Ito.”
