‘Knives Out 2’ will be released on Netflix In the Fall of 2022

Variety reported today that Rian Johnson’s Knives Out 2 will be available on Netflix later this year. Following the huge success of Lionsgate’s 2019 film Knives Out, the streaming service jumped at the chance to buy the sequel’s rights. Netflix said in March 2021 that it has spent $450 million on the second and third chapters of the violent who-done-it. While the purchase price may appear excessive, it is understandable given that the previous picture grossed $311 million.

While we don’t know what the plot of Knives Out 2 will be or what mystery will be solved, we do know that it will have another stellar cast. Along with Kathryn Hahn, Ethan Hawke, Edward Norton, Dave Bautista, Kate Hudson, Janelle Monáe, Leslie Odom Jr., Jessica Henwick, and Madelyn Cline, Daniel Craig will reprise his role as top private investigator Benoit Blanc.

Johnson, whose prior credits include Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Looper, was a no-brainer to return for the sequel after getting an Oscar and BAFTA nod for his work on Knives Out. Along with Johnson, the first film’s cinematographer, Steve Yedlin, and editor, Bob Ducsay, have agreed to return to work on the sequel. On behalf of their firm, T-Street, Johnson will collaborate with Ram Bergman to create.

Knives Out 2 is preparing for a pre-Netflix release at a number of festivals, in addition to its Netflix run. Knives Out 2 seems to be another potential for Netflix to rake in Oscar nominations after a strong year of releasing Oscar-nominated content including Tick, Tick…Boom!, The Power of the Dog, and Don’t Look Up.
