Kim Kardashian Declared Single From Ye

Kim Kardashian’s marital status is officially “single” after filing for divorce from Ye (previously known as Kanye West) more than a year ago. A court in Los Angeles allowed her petition to become legally single and drop the “West” from her name on Wednesday.

Kardashian has made no secret of her desire to end her marriage, claiming in court docs that Ye’s Instagram posts have caused her “emotional distress.” In December, she filed a petition to become legally single, and in the months since, Ye has embarked on a worrying campaign to reclaim her affection, which has included bullying her new boyfriend, Pete Davidson, and other actions that many have seen as abusive.

Given Ye’s history with mental illness and the fact that we can never truly know what’s going on inside their relationship, it’s difficult to know how he feels about this latest development. However, his new attorney was present at the hearing and did not object to Kardashian dropping the “West” from her legal name. Their custody arrangement and asset distribution have yet to be finalized, and will be dealt with separately.

Regardless, this appears to be a positive step forward in what has become a lengthy and public divorce.
