On Thursday, actor Kevin Spacey is accused in the UK with four charges of sexual assault against three men.
The 62-year-old Hollywood star was also charged with one count of “causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without consent,” the UK’s Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement.
“The charges follow a review of the evidence gathered by the Metropolitan Police in its investigation,” the statement continued. “The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against Mr. Spacey are active and that he has the right to a fair trial.”
According to the statement, the alleged assaults happened in 2005, 2008, and 2013. The claimed incidents in 2005 and 2008 took place in London, while the alleged incident in 2013 took place in Gloucestershire. Additional details concerning the claims were not made public right away.
Spacey has been accused of sexual misconduct in the past. In 2017, towards the beginnings of the #MeToo movement, actor Anthony Rapp became the first complainant to come out publicly. Rapp said that when he was 14 years old, Spacey made inappropriate sexual attempts toward him.
At the time, Spacey apologized publicly, claiming he didn’t remember the encounter but that it would have been “deeply inappropriate drunken behavior.” Spacey ended his remarks by revealing that he is gay.
Rapp and an anonymous complainant eventually sued Spacey, however the unidentified accuser declined to publicly identify himself as the court ordered.
In Massachusetts, Spacey was accused with fondling an 18-year-old male, but the prosecution was withdrawn after the complainant asserted his Fifth Amendment protection and refused to testify. Spacey has entered a not guilty plea.
