Kanye West claimed in an Instagram post that after watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street, he “likes Jewish people again.”
“Watching Jonah Hill in 21 Jump Street made me like Jewish people again,” wrote Ye in the caption for the post, which included the DVD cover of the 2012 comedy. “No one should take anger against one or two individuals and transform that into hatred towards millions of innocent people. No Christian can be labeled antisemite knowing Jesus is Jew. Thank you Jonah Hill I love you.”
Hill hasn’t commented, but it’s likely that Ye’s first Instagram post of 2023 has left him feeling at least a little confused. Yet, it’s vital to remember that the actor is not active on social media.
Ye’s most recent post follows a turbulent 2022 in which he furthered his use of nasty and far-right rhetoric. Throughout the year, he made a number of anti-Semitic statements, beginning with his warning to “go death con 3 on Jewish people.” He eventually veered so far off the rails that when conspiracy theorist Alex Jones interviewed him for InfoWars, he admitted that he saw ” good things about Hitler.”
Many social networking platforms, including Twitter, Instagram, and Clubhouse, have suspended him due to his conduct. However, he lost many of his significant brand agreements with Gap, Balenciaga, and most importantly Adidas. The School of the Art Institute of Chicago revoked his honorary doctorate degree soon after he made remarks endorsing Hitler. President Joe Biden issued a statement condemning anti-Semitism in response to Ye’s remarks.
