Kanye West, the embattled rapper, is said to have pulled out of his Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival headlining slot. According to Variety, the “Stronger” rapper has pulled out of his Sunday, April 17 and 24 closing night concerts. According to TMZ, Travis Scott was planning on joining Kanye on stage, which wasn’t the best decision, but Kanye hasn’t been known for making good judgments recently.
This comes after Page Six reported that Kanye told ex-wife Kim Kardashian that “he’s going away to get help.” The Grammy winner has come under criticism for harassing and stalking Kim and her boyfriend, SNL cast member Pete Davidson, on social media, as previously reported by The Root. In recent months, West has sent texts to Kim expressing his love for her and his wish to be married, as well as criticizing her parenting abilities for allowing their daughter to continue to use TikTok. He’s also shared disturbing recordings of assault against Davidson. He went so far as to submit a motion to halt Kardashian’s divorce request.
There’s no official news on Kanye’s status or who may take his place at Coachella. The most apparent probable substitutes, based on the already stated schedule, are recent Grammy winner Doja Cat, who is already slated for Sunday’s program, and rap legend Megan Thee Stallion, who is scheduled for Saturday. Billie Eilish, an Oscar winner, will perform on Saturday, while Harry Styles, a pop icon, will perform on Friday.
