For a “completely frivolous” lawsuit brought against Hillary Clinton and others, former president Donald Trump and one of his lawyers were ordered to pay close to $1 million on Thursday.

With a series of cases brought to air political concerns, U.S. District Judge Donald M. Middlebrooks came to the conclusion that Trump had undermined “the rule of law.”

The lawsuit against Clinton, former FBI agents, and the Democratic Party “should never have been brought,” according to Middlebrooks. Middlebrooks ordered Trump and his lawyer Alina Habba to pay Clinton and the other defendants $937,989.39.

A representative for Trump and Habba declined to comment.

On Friday morning, Trump voluntarily withdrew his lawsuit against Letitia James, the attorney general of the state of New York, which had been filed to block her office’s $250 million civil case against Trump and his business in September. Trump and his business have been charged with extensive fraud by James’ office.

The New York Attorney General’s Office’s spokeswoman declined to comment.
