Jose Mourinho sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager

Jose Mourinho has been sacked as Tottenham Hotspur manager during talks on Monday morning, less than a week before the club’s Carabao Cup final against Manchester City.

According to the Telegraph, first-team coaches Ryan Mason and Chris Powell are set to take charge for the remainder of the season with Spurs currently seventh in the Premier League.

The 2-2 draw at Everton on Friday night sees the north-Londoners five points behind the Champions League places and club chairman Daniel Levy has reacted quickly by sacking the 58-year-old.

Mourinho was appointed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor in November 2019, helping Tottenham achieve a Europa League spot for this season. However, a turbulent second half to the current campaign including suffering a shock exit in the Europa League by Dinamo Zagreb has led to the Portuguese being sacked.

Tottenham host Southampton in the Premier League on Wednesday before the cup final at Wembley against Manchester City in the club’s bid to secure their first trophy since they won the same tournament in 2008.
