Joe Biden issues end-of-year pardons to six individuals

Six people who had previously served their sentences for their offenses received full pardons from US President Biden on Friday.

According to CNN, a “deliberative process” that was closely coordinated with the Department of Justice resulted in the individuals receiving clemency. Five people who were convicted of drug or alcohol offenses are on the list of those who have been pardoned: Charlie Byrnes Jackson, 77; Gary Park Davis, 66; Edward Lincoln De Coito III, 50; John Dix Nock III, 72; and Vincente Ray Flores, 37.

For killing her husband 47 years ago, Beverly Ann Ibn-Tamas, now 80, was found guilty of second-degree murder. Ibn-Tamas, who was expecting at the time, later claimed that her husband had been mistreating her.

“Today, President Biden is granting six full pardons for individuals who have served their sentences and have demonstrated a commitment to improving their communities and the lives of those around them,” the White House said in an official statement.

“President Biden believes America is a nation of second chances, and that offering meaningful opportunities for redemption and rehabilitation empowers those who have been incarcerated to become productive, law-abiding members of society.”

These developments follow President Biden’s announcement a few months ago that thousands of those convicted under federal law of simple marijuana possession would receive pardons.
