Jiri Prochazka beats Glover Teixeira in UFC 275

Jiri Prochazka won the light heavyweight title in the main event of UFC 275 from Kallang, Singapore, with a fifth-round submission win against Glover Teixeira.

Prochazka didn’t have to wait long to face greater difficulty than he had in his first two UFC contests. Teixeira secured a single-leg takedown early in the opening round, and the challenger struggled to get back to his feet for the rest of the round.

The second round featured some of the high-level hitting that had propelled Prochazka to the title so quickly. With a couple uppercuts, he tattooed Teixeira and controlled the most of the round. The champion then returned to further confuse the scorecards.

In the third round, a soaring knee and two clean nose punches provided a turning point. Teixeira took the blows but had to hold on for a few minutes after the two punches fell flush.

In the fourth round, the unexpected shifts in momentum persisted. Prochazka slipped out and inflicted some damage of his own before Teixeira could secure in an arm-triangle choke.

When a fatigued Prochaazka grabbed a Hail Mary rear-naked choke and got the tap from Teixeira, the back-and-forth came to a surprising finish.

In the UFC, Prochazka’s journey to the top has been swift. He came into his first bout with a ten-fight winning run under his belt. Only one of those ten victories came by decision.
