It sounds like a Beetlejuice sequel is definitely going to happen after years of false starts. Also, Jenna Ortega might play the lead in the eagerly anticipated return to one of filmmaker Tim Burton’s favorite universes.

The sequel to the 1988 horror comedy starring Michael Keaton as the eponymous character and Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, according to sources, is now “circling a role” for Ortega. This information was provided by the Hollywood Reporter on Thursday night. The claim continues that Ortega will play the daughter of Ryder’s character from the original movie, despite their being no official announcement.

Production may start as early as this May, according to THR, which also claims Burton and Keaton will return.

“I feel so lucky,” she said at the time. “He’s honestly such a sweet person and an incredible collaborator. He’s an actor’s director. He knows the way to communicate with people and I think I felt this overwhelming sense of trust and just partnership with him.”
