Over the brand’s lack of financial transparency regarding their partnership with D’Usse, Jay-Z has filed a lawsuit against the alcoholic manufacturer Bacardi.
According to TMZ, Hov’s firm SC Liquor filed the complaint against Bacardi, requesting that they release their financial records so that the owner of Roc-a-Fella Records could see exactly how much money he is generating from D’Usse, the cognac brand in which Jay-Z and Bacardi share a 50/50 partnership.
Since 2011, Jay-Z has co-owned D’Usse. He is famous for drinking it straight from one of the Grammys he won in 2013 for Watch The Throne. According to the lawsuit, Jay must have access to the manufacturing warehouses, D’Usse barrels, bottles, and all other information pertaining to Bacardi’s inventory management system. As a partner, SC Liquor claims it must “monitor the conduct of [Bacardi’s] business to protect SC’s rights.”
