At UFC 283 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Jamahal Hill defeated local favorite Glover Teixeira by unanimous decision to claim the light-heavyweight title.

Hill, an American who is 31 years old, earned his first UFC title in his eighth fight after completely dominating the stand-up.

As a result of receiving a UFC contract through president Dana White’s Contender Series, he becomes the first athlete to win the title.

Brazilian fighter Teixeira, 43, announced his retirement following the loss.

Former champion Teixeira competed in the UFC for ten years, winning 16 of his 23 matches there.

Brandon Moreno of Mexico defeated Deiveson Figueiredo of Brazil in the co-main event to win the flyweight division’s undisputed title twice.

With a left hook, Moreno, 29, knocked out Figueiredo, 35, and opened a sizable gash below his right eye. At the conclusion of the third round, the doctor stopped the fight due to swelling that caused the eye to close.

It put a stop to the pair’s historic fourth fight, which Moreno had won twice, lost once, and drawn the other.
