Facebook has confirmed that Olympic gold medallist Elaine Thompson-Herah was mistakenly blocked on Instagram.
The fastest woman in the world, who won the 100m and 200m races in Tokyo 2020 was banned from the platform after posting videos of the races.
As reported by the BBC, there are strict protocols around sharing content from the Games on Instagram, while Thompson-Herah was granted access just a few hours after the ban.
The Jamaican sprinter took to Twitter, regarding posting the videos, explaining that she “did not have the right to do so”.
I was blocked on Instagram for posting the races of the Olympic because I did not own the right to do so. So see y’all in 2 days

A spokesperson for the IOC explained to Reuters, as per the BBC, that athletes are allowed to share content from the broadcasters’ social media account, who hold exclusive rights to show the Games.
It was unclear as to where the content that Thompson-Herah shared stemmed from as any content that breaks these rules are erased instantly.
