India to host its first MotoGP race in 2023

In 2023, India will host to a MotoGP race for the first time ever.

At the Buddh International Circuit, where the Formula 1 Indian Grand Prix was once held, the competition will take place.

Anurag Thakur, India’s minister of sports, stated: “It’s a historic day for the sports world and a tribute to the 75th year of India’s celebration.”

75% of all vehicles in India are motorcycles, which amount more than 200 million.

“We have a lot of fans in India and we’re excited to be able to bring the sport to them,” said Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive officer of Dorna, the sport’s commercial rights holder.

“India is also a key market for the motorcycle industry and therefore, by extension, for MotoGP, as the pinnacle of the two-wheeled world.

“We very much look forward to racing at Buddh International Circuit and can’t wait to welcome the fans.”

From 2011 to 2013, the Indian Grand Prix was held at the Buddh International Circuit in Uttar Pradesh. The race was later removed from the sport’s schedule.

Following a September announcement of plans to hold races in Saudi Arabia with the goal of constructing a specialized track there, MotoGP has now expanded into India.
