In their win against Freiburg, Bayern Munich was found to have 12 players on the field

Bayern Munich had 12 players on the pitch for a few moments during their 4-1 Bundesliga victory against Freiburg on Saturday, raising questions about whether the score will stand.

Bayern had already taken a 3-1 lead when the blunder happened in the 85th minute. The Bavarians were reduced to ten men after a double substitution, although only one player left the field.

Bayern might lose the match, according to Sport Bild, as well as a possible point deduction.

Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman had placed them up 3-1 by the time the error occurred, after Nils Petersen had cancelled out Leon Goretzka’s opening. Both Coman and Corentin Tolisso were taken off by Julian Nagelsmann, the latter having come on 20 minutes earlier, although only one player exited the field.

The game was paused in the 87th minute when VAR notified the referee of the scenario. After many seconds of misunderstanding, the game was resumed and an additional eight minutes were added, albeit the case is unlikely to have ended there.

In the 96th minute, Marcel Sabitzer, one of those inserted in the double substitution, scored Bayern’s fourth goal.
