In Martin Scorsese’s Grateful Dead film, Jonah Hill will play Jerry Garcia

According to Deadline, Martin Scorsese is reuniting with Apple for a biopic about the legendary rock band Grateful Dead. In their first collaboration since The Wolf of Wall Street, the Oscar-winning filmmaker is also bringing along Jonah Hill to play the band’s vocalist, Jerry Garcia.

Scorsese previously expressed an interest in the Grateful Dead by executive producing the documentary Long Strange Trip. Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, who wrote American Crime Story: Impeachment, will compose the project’s script. Scorsese is coming off of the release of Killers of the Flower Moon, which will be released on Apple TV+ as well.

Little is known about the film’s plot at this time. The Grateful Dead have a long history extending back to their beginnings as The Warlocks in the 1960s Bay Area during the psychedelic era. The video might take place at any point in their history, from their early days as a scrappy jug band to the apex of their fame, which included extensive performances and jam sessions for the Deadheads, or even at the end of Garcia’s life in 1995.
