Iga Swiatek Beats Ons Jabeur to Win U.S. Open Women’s Singles Title

Iga Swiatek, the current world number one, finished strong by defeating fifth-seeded Ons Jabeur of Tunisia in the US Open to win her second major title of 2022.

On the hard courts of New York, Poland’s Swiatek, 21, triumphed 6-2 7-6 (7-5) to win the final Grand Slam trophy of the season.

After losing the first set easily, 28-year-old Jabeur found his footing in the second, but it was not enough to prevent Swiatek from winning his third major championship.

The French Open’s previous two victories for Swiatek both occurred on clay.

In July’s Wimbledon final, Jabeur also came up short, prolonging her search for one of tennis’ four most illustrious crowns.

The top two WTA Tour players squared off in the Flushing Meadows final, but Swiatek dominated the match to show why she has such a significant advantage over the competition.

Jabeur rose to a joint career-high position of second after making it to the final, although Swiatek maintained her top spot and would have even if she had lost.
