HBO Max’s Green Lantern Series Has Lost Its Showrunner And Is Being Redeveloped

After DC and HBO Max decided to take the series in a different route, Green Lantern showrunner Seth Grahame-Smith made the decision to leave, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

John Stewart, the second Black superhero to debut in DC Comics, will serve as the focus of the three-year-old developed series. A lot of the show’s original components had already been put in place before the direction changed. Guy Gardner and Alan Scott were to be portrayed by Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Finn Wittrock (American Horror Story, Deep Water), respectively. Grahame-Smith (The Lego Batman Movie) also completed the eight-episode first season’s eight scripts. In 2020, he was introduced as the showrunner and writer.

When Walter Hamada, the head of DC Films, left his position this month, sources tell THR that DC decided to start again with the Green Lantern series and put the emphasis on Stewart, who was previously thought to be “off the table to producers.” Since they don’t start in their new positions until next week, James Gunn and producer Peter Safran, who have been chosen to lead the newly established DC Studios division, had nothing to do with the direction of the show.
