HBO Drops Official Trailer for ‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel ‘House of the Dragon’

Before it premieres on HBO next month, the new House of the Dragon series, which is based on George R.R. Martin’s 2018 book Fire & Blood, has been given a closer look to fans of Game of Thrones.

Watch the brand-new House of the Dragon trailer, which was just released and which, as fans are probably already aware, takes place 200 years before the main events of the Game of Thrones narrative.

King Viserys Targaryen, played by Paddy Considine, has been chosen to succeed the Old King, Jaehaerys Targaryen. While the protagonist is focused on carrying on and advancing the tradition started by his grandfather, he will soon realize that there is (much) more to leadership than having the best of intentions.

Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Emma D’Arcy, Steve Toussaint, Eve Best, Fabien Frankel, Sonoya Mizuno, Rhys Ifans, Milly Alcock, Bethany Antonia, Phoebe Campbell, and others all appear in the ten-episode series.

The HBO and HBO Max premiere of the prequel series for House of the Dragon, co-created by Martin and Ryan Condal (who also serves as co-showrunner alongside Miguel Sapochnik), takes place on August 21.
