Hailey Bieber sued for trademark infringement over new skincare line

Hailey Bieber’s Rhode is being sued by a competing cosmetics company just after the debut of her new skincare line.

According to TMZ, a clothing company called Rhode NYC has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Bieber’s firm, which bears her middle name, alleging that the model’s skincare line poses a threat to overshadow their brand due to the model’s immense renown.

Purna Khatau and Phoebe Vickers, co-founders of Rhode NYC, which was founded in 2013, have asked Bieber’s company to stop using the Rhode name in a lawsuit that was submitted on Tuesday to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York in Manhattan. The lawsuit also asserts that Rhode NYC’s logo and Hailey’s brand’s logo are similar.

“The owners say they’ve already faced issues online … people have been tagging Hailey’s company by mistake instead of theirs, which they think shows there is clearly consumer confusion,” the outlet notes.

A source close to Bieber’s brand told TMZ that Hailey “owns the trademark for skincare, and the other Rhode holds the trademark for clothing.”
