Gunna Denied Release From Jail for Third Time

Judge Ural Glanville, according to a report from Billboard, declined to free Gunna from custody on Thursday in advance of a trial that is now scheduled to start in January. This is the third such denial, with the judge summarizing the stated justification for Thursday’s denial as being based on the “same concerns” raised in the other two denials (namely, claims of potential witness intimidation).

Gunna’s legal team has asserted, however, that the prosecution has “no evidence” to support keeping him in custody (including in their client’s third bond petition in September).

Gunna was first detained in May in connection with the larger YSL charge, as was previously reported. Gunna’s legal team once more pleaded for their client’s release in court documents submitted last month, emphasizing in particular the fact that the “only serious overt act” against the musician had previously been withdrawn.

Kevin Liles and Julie Greenwald’s campaign to protect black art is very close to reaching its target of 75,000 signatures. The petition, which criticizes the “shameful and un-American practice” of criminalizing artistic expression, has garnered public backing from Young Thug, who is presently in jail due to the YSL indictment. Young Thug also signed the petition.
