Gianluigi Buffon’s contract with Parma has been extended until 2024, making the veteran goalkeeper 46 when the term finishes.
Buffon returned to Parma last summer and announced the agreement during a press conference alongside Kyle Krause, the club’s president. “For me and my family, this is a wonderful day. I hope that the city and all fans will be happy,” Buffon remarked.
The World Cup winner started his career at Parma, where he made his debut in November 1995 before joining Juventus in 2001. Buffon spent 19 years with Juventus, including two periods with the club and one season with PSG in 2018-19.
Buffon, who has won 10 Serie A titles and is the league’s record appearance maker with 657 games, pledged to “give his best, again and again” for Parma, who were relegated to Serie B last season. “My return was linked to the relationships and the deep bond I have always had with this city,” Buffon added.
“If I hadn’t believed in what the president has in mind and in what we are doing, I would not have accepted this proposal,” added Buffon, who is also the club captain. “I am optimistic for the future of this club. It is a beautiful and exciting challenge for me.”
