Gerard Pique secures TV rights to show Ligue 1 in Spain

Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has purchased the rights to show Ligue 1 in Spain through his company Kosmos Holding on a three-year deal.

It comes following Lionel Messi’s move to PSG where he is expected to make his debut this Sunday away to Reims. The match is expected to be shown on free-to-air channel Ibai Llanos, a Spanish streamer and esports commentator via Twitch.

As reported by ESPN, Kosmos secured the TV rights in collaboration with Enjoy TV with plans to sub-license matches to a television channel or OTT provider like Amazon Prime.

Movistar previously held the rights to broadcaster Ligue 1 in Spain for a deal worth “less than €2.5 million”, sources told ESPN. However, they turned down the chance to extend the contract prior to Messi joining Paris Saint-Germain.

The Argentine has spent the past fortnight building his fitness having trained with his new teammates but is yet to make an appearance for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
