In response to the artist Kanye West’s remarks concerning the death of George Floyd on a recent episode of Drink Champs, a $250 million lawsuit has been announced.
It was revealed in a press release on Tuesday that Roxie Washington had hired the Witherspoon Law Group and Dixon & Dixon Attorneys at Law to bring the lawsuit against Ye on behalf of her minor child, who is the only beneficiary of Floyd’s estate. In the lawsuit, Floyd’s daughter is suing for $250 million in damages while being jointly represented by the two law firms.
“Kanye’s comments are a repugnant attempt to discount George Floyd’s life and to profit from his inhumane death,” attorney Pat D. Dixon III said, adding that the goal here is to “hold Mr. West accountable” for his “flagrant remarks” against Floyd.
In the press release from Tuesday, it was said that Ye and his “business partners” and “associates” were all named as defendants in the case. Ye is alleged to have engaged in “harassment, misappropriation, defamation, and infliction of emotional distress” by his remarks, which included untrue allegations regarding Floyd’s murder.
Ye, as was previously reported, brought up fentanyl and made the false claim that Floyd wasn’t killed by Minneapolis police. Floyd’s body later contained a nonlethal amount of fentanyl, but the official cause of death was judged to be homicide. Even Nevertheless, a lot of right-wing commentators have kept bringing up Floyd’s death while making inaccurate or deceptive assertions regarding fentanyl.
