The family of George Floyd may file a lawsuit against Kanye West for spreading the false and unsupported allegation that George Floyd overdosed on drugs during his hugely controversial participation on the Drink Champs podcast.
A lawsuit against Ye is being considered, according to a tweet from civil rights lawyer Lee Merritt on Sunday, who cited the disgraced musician’s “false statements about the manner of his death.”
Ye supported his claim that fentanyl played a role in Floyd’s death by citing Candace Owens’ most new documentary about Floyd and the Black Lives Matter movement. One can virtually presume West didn’t read about the independent autopsy that determined Floyd died from “asphyxia due to persistent forceful pressure”.
It’s also possible that West missed that Dr. Martin Tobin, a breathing physiologist who testified in court that Floyd died from a lack of oxygen because of the victim’s body’s positioning, which led to the acts of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Dr. Tobin’s testimony was among the evidence used by the jury of 12 people to convict Chauvin of second-degree intentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter.
While one cannot defame the dead, the family of #GeorgeFloyd is considering suit for Kanye’s false statements about the manner of his death.
Claiming Floyd died from fentanyl not the brutality established criminally and civilly undermines & diminishes the Floyd family’s fight.
