On August 21, HBO and HBO Max will air House of the Dragon, the network said on Wednesday.
It’s the first HBO spinoff series since Game of Thrones completed its successful run in 2019. The show will take viewers 200 years before Game of Thrones to a time when the Targaryen lineage controlled Westeros, based on George R.R. Martin’s novel Fire & Blood. In a narrative of power, competition, status, and Dragonstone, the ancient dragon rider clan takes center stage. In October 2021, HBO published the first teaser, whetting fans’ appetites for more fire and spectacular medieval battles.
King Viserys Targaryen is played by Paddy Considine, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen is played by Emma D’Arcy, Prince Daemon Targaryen is played by Matt Smith, Alicent Hightower is played by Olivia Cooke, and Lord Corlys Velaryon is played by Steve Toussaint.
Martin previously expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming series in a blog post where he wrote, “And yes, I love it too. Ryan and Miguel and their team are kicking ass and taking names.”
