According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hulu has ordered 20 episodes of the iconic animated science fiction show created by Matt Groening and David X. Cohen. The program is planned to begin production later this month and will premiere on the streaming platform in 2023. Billy West (Fry), Katey Sagal (Leela), Lauren Tom (Amy Wong), Phil LaMarr (Hermes Conrad), and others from the initial run of the program will return.
John DiMaggio, the actor who voiced Bender, has yet to come aboard for the revival and there’s reportedly been talks of recasting the role. DiMaggio took to Twitter to respond to all the news on Wednesday, writing, “Thanks for the concern and the props, everyone. I really appreciate it. Don’t worry, I’ll keep you posted, but until then… CHEESE IT!”
Matt Groening and David X. Cohen will also return. “It’s a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again,” Groening said, per THR.
