Fury vs Wilder III cancelled after British fighter tests positive for COVID-19

The third fight between Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder has been called off after the British fighter tested positive for coronavirus.

As reported by the BBC, the WBC world heavyweight champion was extremely disappointed by the situation as his test result arrived on Thursday. Having spoken with medical experts, the fight was cancelled and is now likely to be dragged back to October.

Shelly Finkel, Wilder’s manager, was quoted by the BBC saying “Deontay is disappointed.” An official statement from the fight’s promoters Top Rank is due to be released later on Friday.

After an exciting draw in the first bout between the two, Fury defeated Wilder to become WBC champion in February 2020 in the second match, 14 months between the two fights.

Neither of the pair have fought since this clash as Fury was expected to face Anthony Joshua, the man who possesses the three other heavyweight boxing titles. Due to an arbitration hearing, Wilder had the contractual right for a third contest against Fury.
