From 2023, Las Vegas will host a Formula 1 night race

During the 2023 season, Formula One will hold a race in Las Vegas, as the sport and its owner, Liberty Media, add a third race in the United States.

The 2023 race will take place on a dedicated street circuit on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip on a Saturday night in November. The 3.8-mile (6.12-kilometer) circuit will have three primary straights and 14 turns. On the longest of the straights, the vehicles are projected to reach speeds of over 212 mph (342 km/h), and the race will be 50 laps long.

The race will take place at both the Track of the Americas in Texas and the new Miami street circuit. It comes as a result of the F1’s growing popularity in the United States.

“This is an incredible moment for Formula 1 that demonstrates the huge appeal and growth of our sport with a third race in the U.S.,” president and chief executive of Formula 1, Stefano Domenicali said in a statement. “Las Vegas is a destination known around the world for its excitement, hospitality, thrills, and of course, the famous Strip. There is no better place for Formula 1 to race than in the global entertainment capital of the world and we cannot wait to be here next year. I want to thank everyone who helped deliver this event, especially Governor Sisolak, the Clark County Commission, Steve Hill at the LVCVA, and our local partners.”

As the full calendar for the 2023 season hasn’t been announced, it isn’t known if the Las Vegas race will replace an existing event on the calendar or grow the calendar even further.
