On Thursday night, Frank Lampard revealed that he broke his hand celebrating Alex Iwobi’s dramatic winning goal for Everton against Newcastle.
With a cool finish in the ninth minute of stoppage time, Iwobi gave the Toffees a massive three points.
Everton were under prolonged pressure from Newcastle when midfielder Allan was controversially sent off in the 83rd minute, and a total of 14 minutes were tacked on after a protester attached himself to a goal-post.
Everton won despite being down to ten men after Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s pass found Iwobi, whose left-footed effort reached the back of the net.
On the pitch, in the Goodison Park fans, and even in the dugout, the goal triggered wild scenes of pandemonium.
Everyone at Everton was fully aware of how crucial Iwobi’s goal may prove to be in the club’s struggle to avoid relegation.
The Toffees are now three points ahead of Watford in 18th position, and have two games in hand on Leeds United, who are now one point ahead of Lampard’s side.
