Following the Oscars slap, Netflix has backed away from a Will Smith film

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix discreetly canceled Fast and Loose, an action thriller starring Smith, in the previous week. The film had already lost its original director, John Wick, and Deadpool 2’s David Leitch, just before the Oscars — that is, before the slap. The streamer had been on a frenzied quest for a replacement, but now, according to THR, they’ve halted their search and placed the film on hold.

According to THR, Smith would have played (and could still play) a “crime boss who loses his memory after an attack.” By piecing together information, he realizes that he has been a wealthy kingpin as well as a broke CIA agent.” However, it is now unknown whether Netflix would resurrect the project with a new director and maybe a new actor.

It’s not the first time Smith’s films have gotten into problems. Before the ceremony, the actor was said to have gotten 40 pages of the Bad Boys 4 script, but a source reports Sony has now placed the film on hold. Meanwhile, Emancipation, his Apple+ slave drama, is now in post-production.

Meanwhile, Chris Rock’s stand-up ticket sales have soared.
