Five people were killed after turbulent scenes at Kabul airport on Monday as U.S troops have taken control of the site a day after the Taliban seized the Afghan capital.

As reported by Reuters, a U.S official stated that troops fired into the air so that people wouldn’t board onto a military flight that was ready to flee U.S diplomats and embassy staff from the chaotic city.

Three out of the five bodies could be seen were seen on the ground by the side entrance of the airport while several witnesses confirmed to the publication that five bodies could be seen.

The war is over and peace prevailed was the message sent to residents by the Taliban while the country’s president departed the country on Sunday, hoping to avoid any bloodshed with Islamists entering the city.

Taliban officials insist that they are yet to be alarmed of clash reports anywhere in Afghanistan with one saying that “The situation is peaceful,” as quoted by Reuters.

Meanwhile, a shopkeeper in the streets of central Kabul stayed in his carpet store overnight to guard it. “I’m in a complete state of shock. I know there will be no foreigners, no international people who will now come to Kabul.”
