First trailer for Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam is released

This spinoff tells the origin story of Shazam’s biggest nemesis as we wait for the sequel to DC’s 2019 superhero caper Shazam. The film Black Adam, starring Dwayne Johnson, is set to hit theaters on October 21.

The first trailer was released on Wednesday, and it gave us a glimpse into the antihero’s backstory. Black Adam is from a fictional North African nation from which he was imprisoned for 5,000 years in the comics. He gets his superpowers from the same ancient wizard who gave Shazam his lightning powers. According to the trailer, the movie version of Black Adam must choose between becoming a hero or a villain, and based on his response to the topic of whether heroes murder people, it appears that he chooses the darker road.
