The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes, the much anticipated Hunger Games prequel, will be released on November 17, 2023, by Lionsgate.
The teaser was initially seen at CinemaCon more than a month ago, but the studio has now publicly posted it on YouTube to ignite the flames of fans all around the world.
Collins’ Songbirds and Snakes, a prequel to the Hunger Games trilogy, is set in a post-war Capitol and follows 18-year-old Coriolanus Snow, who is the final hope for his fading dynasty, a once-proud family that has fallen from favor. The young Snow is frightened when he is assigned to train Lucy Gray Baird, the female tribute from poor District 12, with the 10th annual Hunger Games rapidly approaching. Snow believes he can swing the odds in his favor after Lucy Gray grabs all of Panem’s attention by defiantly singing at the reaping ritual. Snow and Lucy’s fight against time to live will finally reveal who is a songbird and who is a serpent, uniting their instincts for theatrics and newfound political knowledge.
Lionsgate announced during CinemaCon 2022 that the prequel will be released on November 17, 2023, the same day as the Hunger Games sequels Catching Fire, Mockingjay Part One, and Mockingjay Part Two. Francis Lawrence, who directed the sequels, is back to direct the new film. Michael Lesslie (Macbeth, Assassin’s Creed) wrote the most recent draft of the script.
