The first-ten edition of the now-ubiquitous device was in its original box and had never been opened, as first reported by Business Insider. The phone sold for $63,356.40 at an LCG Auctions event on Sunday. This specific phone had a beginning bid of $2,500, and it was previously anticipated that the item would bring in $50,000 or more.
This is regarded as the highest price a first-generation iPhone has ever fetched at auction; earlier instances of big auction gains of this kind include one that sold for just under $40,000 in October of last year.
The most recent first-gen to make a big impact at auction, according to LCG, belonged to a cosmetic tattoo artist who had kept the sealed device in his possession until he learned about the aforementioned 2022 sale. The new auction’s proceeds will go toward the woman’s tattoo studio.
The 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max variants of the newest series of iPhones, which debuted in September, showcase the A16 Bionic chip system’s performance.
