Disney took advantage of the greatest night in Hollywood by offering fans the most thorough preview of upcoming May’s The Little Mermaid.

A new trailer for the live-action adaptation of the famous underwater story, starring Halle Bailey as Ariel, was unveiled on Sunday at the 2023 Academy Awards ceremony. Daveed Diggs, Awkwafina, Jacob Tremblay, Jonah Hauer-King, Art Malik, Noma Dumezweni, Javier Bardem, Simone Ashley, Lorena Andrea, and Melissa McCarthy join Bailey in the cast of the unstoppable megahit directed by Rob Marshall.

The latter, who plays Ursula in Marshall’s film, hailed Bailey’s eagerly anticipated performance in the long-awaited remake of the 1989 animated Disney classic in June of last year.

“It’s so beautiful. … It’s just different,” she said on Watch What Happens Live of the strength of Bailey’s vocals on the live-action musical, though she was also careful to note that she can’t reveal much about the production. “That girl has got roots down and she sings from her heart. When I heard it, there were, like, seven of us that just burst out crying because we had not heard [the song].”

The Little Mermaid hits theaters on May 26.
