FIFA to trial hour-long matches with two 30-minute halves

FIFA are looking the revamp football with some significant changes to the rules of football with the introduction of hour-long matches.

According to Hypebeast, the Future of Football Cup youth tournament will see matches reduced from 90 to 60 minutes with two 30-minute halves. These new regulations will have a major effect on the way football is viewed with game lengths and suspensions possibly changing.

As is the case with other sports like basketball and American football, the match clock would also stop whenever the ball goes out of play. Unlimited substitutions are also being looked at by FIFA along with throw-ins being played with feet and an automatic five-minute suspension for a yellow card, like Rugby Union.

The Future of Football Cup will be played in the Netherlands with youth sides across Europe competing. PSV, AZ Alkmaar, Heerenveen and Club Brugge’s respective U19 sides will compete under the new rules. These changes will then be monitored closely by FIFA.
