Everton sign Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli on a permanent deal

Everton has signed Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli on a two-and-a-half-year deal for up to £40 million.

Frank Lampard, the new manager of Everton, has made acquiring midfielder Dele Alli a priority, believing he can help him rebuild a career that has stopped in recent years.

After joining Spurs in November, the 25-year-old made six appearances under Antonio Conte, who has played 37 times for England.

After 20 appearances, the first £10 million of his transfer cost will be paid.

“I’m delighted to have signed for Everton, a huge club with a great fanbase and history,” said Alli, who scored 67 goals in 269 games at Spurs.

“I’m eager to get started and can’t wait for my first game in an Everton shirt.

“I’m looking forward to helping the team and the opportunity to work with the new manager Frank Lampard.”

He is ruled out of Everton’s FA Cup fourth round encounter against Brentford on Saturday, but he might make his Premier League debut against Newcastle on February 8.

Everton had no choice but to make the transaction permanent after adding Donny van de Beek from Manchester United to the previous signing of Anwar El Ghazi from Aston Villa.

Alli, who joined Tottenham from MK Dons in 2015, gained his most recent England cap in 2019.

During his first season, he scored 10 goals in 33 Premier League appearances before scoring 18 in the 2016-17 season, winning him two PFA Young Player of the Year accolades.

Alli was a regular under Mauricio Pochettino, but after Jose Mourinho’s hiring, he fell out of favor, starting only seven league games last season.

During Nuno Espirito Santo’s brief reign as manager, the offensive midfielder started the first six Premier League games of the season, but he battled for playing time under Conte.

Everton Under-23s have recruited England Under-20 goalkeeper Billy Crellin on a two-and-a-half-year agreement from League One club Fleetwood Town for an unknown price.

Crellin, 21, was a member of England’s Under-17 World Cup-winning team in 2017 and spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, helping them earn League Two promotion.
