The second consecutive year that Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” took home the award for best comedy series, HBO Max’s “The White Lotus” won best limited series, and HBO’s “Succession” earned the night’s top prize for outstanding drama series. The presentation was hosted by Kenan Thompson.
Earlier in the program, Zendaya from HBO’s “Euphoria” became the first Black woman to win lead actress in a drama and the youngest two-time winner of any Emmy in history, while Lee Jung-jae from Netflix’s “Squid Game” became the first Asian actor to ever win lead actor in a drama and the fourth Asian person to ever win an acting Emmy.
Jason Sudeikis once again won the top prize for actor in a comedy, while “Ted Lasso’s” Jean Smart got best actress in a comedy for the HBO Max program.
For her portrayal of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes in Hulu’s “The Dropout,” Amanda Seyfried received the award for lead actress in a limited series, and Jennifer Coolidge, star of “The White Lotus,” took up the award for supporting actress in a limited series. Michael Keaton for Hulu’s “Dopesick” and Murray Bartlett for his supporting part in HBO’s “The White Lotus” received the prizes in the acting category.
Matthew Macfadyen received recognition for his supporting performance in “Succession,” for which he was nominated in 2020 but did not receive the award. Then Julia Garner accepted the prize in the corresponding actress category for Netflix’s Ozark’s final season, in which she portrayed Ruth Langmore. This was her third Emmy triumph for the character.
