eBay may follow in the footsteps of Tesla, Paypal and TIME as a company that is considering accepting cryptocurrencies as payment, while delving in a future venture into the NFT sector.
Yahoo Finance reports via Hypebeast that the e-commerce platform is looking into new ways to cajole its business after a projected disappointing second-quarter forecast much to the frustration of eBay’s shareholders.
In an interview with Reuters, eBay CEO Jamie Iannone declared a possible move into the cryptocurrency world, as quoted by Hypebeast saying:
“We are always looking at the most relevant forms of payment and will continue to assess that going forward,” he noted. “We have no immediate plans, but [cryptocurrency] is something we are keeping an eye on.”
Iannone also revealed the potential of NFTs being accepted as a payment when speaking with CNBC:
“We’re exploring opportunities on how we can enable [NFTs] on eBay in an easy way,” he said as quoted by Hypebeast. “Everything that’s collectible has been on eBay for decades and will continue to be for the next few decades.”
