On Spotify, Ye is killing it. According to HipHop DX, the musician formerly known as Kanye West topped the platform’s most-streamed artist list for two days in a row. With the aid of Jeen-Yuhs: A Kanye Trilogy, a new Netflix documentary, and Donda 2, he reached the summit.
Despite Ye’s declaration on his social media channels on Feb. 17 that his sequel album will only be released on his own platform, the Stem Player, his Spotify domination continues.
“Today artists get just 12% of the money the industry makes. It’s time to free music from this oppressive system. It’s time to take control and build our own,” he wrote.
According to Complex, the music entrepreneur uploaded more than a dozen Donda 2 tunes on Stem Player on Thursday (February 24). They featured renditions from the Donda 2 event, which took place this week in Miami.
Netflix has just released the second episode of Jeen-Yuhs the day before. The three-part series focuses on Ye’s early career and his aspirations to be a celebrity. It depicts him as a rapper attempting to be taken seriously.
.@kanyewest was the #1 most streamed artist on US Spotify on February 26.
