Romeo Beckham, the son of former England captain David, debuted for Brentford B in a London Senior Cup game on Tuesday at the ground of ninth-tier team Erith & Belvedere.
The 20-year-old was a second-half substitution with the Bees behind 2-1 until a late comeback gave them a 3-2 victory. He has signed on loan from Inter Miami II until the end of the season.
The Beckham influence certainly had an impact off the field as well, as 554 fans, a club record, showed up on a chilly, rainy evening in south east London.
Father David witnessed his son continue the Beckham tradition by throwing in a hazardous cross from the right wing while watching from among the crowd, hidden under the hood of a black raincoat. This was a moment the administrator of the Erith & Belvedere FC Twitter account was not going to miss.
Romeo also shown his ability to bend the ball like Beckham with a few late corners and a header that hit the crossbar, but he was called offside.
By this time, fans had become aware of Beckham Senior’s presence and were swarming toward the 47-year-old to try to take a selfie with him.
Welling United, who play on the same field as Erith & Belvedere, expressed their appreciation for having such a well-known athlete in attendance by tweeting a picture of Beckham grinning.
