Creed Spinoff Movie Drago starring Dolph Lundgren is in Development

MGM has revealed a new Creed spinoff is in the works ahead of the release of Creed III, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2023.

According to Variety, MGM is working on a movie called Drago that will center on the legendary Rocky IV villain Ivan Drago. The source mentions that screenwriter Robert Lawton is penning the film.

“I’m incredibly humbled and grateful for this opportunity, and I’m approaching it as an enormous fan of the ‘Rocky’ franchise, who happens to be a screenwriter,” Lawton said in a statement to Variety.

Famously portrayed by Dolph Lundgren in the 1985 film Rocky IV was Russian boxer Ivan Drago. Viktor Drago, Drago’s son, made an appearance in Creed II in 2018.

“I think there’s some talk about doing a whole spinoff on Drago with MGM,” Lundgren told the Hollywood Reporter in 2021. “So you may get more of that.”

On November 22, 2022, Creed III will hit theaters for the first time in the series without Sylvester Stallone playing the title character Rocky Balboa. Jordan wanted to stress that the movie is in good hands and that there would always be a small amount of Stallone’s DNA in the series in an interview with IGN.
